Before we "roll", as they say, I'm going to welcome questions after 60 minutes of this 75 minute talk. This isn't because I've run out of things to say, but because I like to hear feedback. The best thing about writing for The Register is the relationship with the readers, which I think is unique anywhere in publishing, and readers send in the most incredible things. One sent me an Old Testament proverb (27:17) which was very encouraging: "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend". At least I think it was meant to be kind. I grew up in 1970s Britain where there was a lot of "sharpening of the countenances" on Saturday afternoons, before and after the match.
So I hope I've got that right.
